also are my healthy grocery buying habits too adult???

what i bought:

soymilk
plain yogurt lofat
frozen fruit (mango + smoothie mix)
fresh spinich
whole wheat english muffins
bananas
apples
chicken breasts
uncle bens rice bowls
oj
grapefruit juice
carrots
healthy choice soup (this is really frightening)
other packaged salad

seriously ...
i like healthy food

and strangely enough I am not a fan at all of sweets anymore
not ice cream or chocolate or cake or cookies, i can't imagine wanting to buy them anymore
i only ever eat them if i'm pms'ing or by accident
kind of like when i accidently smoke pot even though i know i actively don't like it

hmm - too good to be true or is the administration manipulating things

It makes me wonder ... U.S. GDP growth revised up to 8.2 percent in third quarter - Nov. 25, 2003 How real is this. The medicare bill is less frightening than i had originally thought. At least there will be some negotiating through the PBMs but why should the govt tie its own hands when it comes to negotiating with drug makers. Political contributions? Personal business ties?

Makes one very cynical about the motives and outcomes of the political process and players.

It also disturbs me that the government is pursuing increased secrecy and burying information that might not put it in a good light. Along with a whole host of other things that disturb/enrage/disgust/sadden me about Bush, his policies, and his administration. I can't think of a single thing he has done in office that i agree with, not a single one.

people are sheep

i'm getting very annoyed with diamond ring commercials. i hate the concept of an obligitory diamond engagement ring and i don't think diamonds are that romantic. it's bizarre to me that everyone seems to just accept that as an immutable fact. *if* i ever get engaged i would either not want an engagement ring or i would want something more personal and meaningful.

it also kind of wigs me out that i've started looking for wedding rings on guys i'm checking out

death cab's video for "the new year" was on subterranean this week. pretty cool.

weekend

weekend yay! and a short week next week krazy thanxgiving - going to see 21 grams w/ r

somehow fatalistic futuristic crazy industrial rap seems appropriate to my mood

i got to do some regression with R today. seems powerful, cool like that, but as always it's hard to start out with a new syntax. yay regression and statistics. i want a job that involves more of that and less of this

LA Weekly article

This guy is very cool:

Christof Koch

Visual attention and conciousness research is an area that interests me very much. It's so tangible and relevent to everyday experience. i like that i have a little better understanding of certain features of interaction between myself (esp my brain) and the environment

corporate speak

is "drill down" the new fashionable corporate speak. i can't decide whether it gets on my nerves - it may be a useful phrase but the mental image makes me a little uncomfortable

other gems: "deliverable" "action item"

listening to: prefuse 73 - one word extinguisher

seasons for music

do other people find themselves associating certain music with different seasons? winter is always somewhat melancholy but real for me - i listen to more melodic folky music. in the summer i like hip-hop and abrasive bright difficult music.

listening to: the decemberists - castaways and cutouts

I have issues

anyways ... should it really wig me out so much when my favorite band(s) get prominent reviews in Rolling Stone. It's perverse because I only look at Rolling Stone because i want to see if bands I like are mentioned but then I get uncomfortable when they do.

went to the gym again last night but fortunately didn't get hit on again - there are a lot of things that i had heard - such as LA is full of people in entertainment (uh duh!) and people really do try to hook up at the gym - that didn't affect my life until i started living in the real world of jobs, gyms, adults, and people who didn't go to caltech.

It more and more makes me determined to move out of LA - LA drivers are really starting to piss me off too with their tailgating and stupid huge SUVs with the blinding headlights

2 things that have recently pissed me off

This is just another irritating example of the hypocritical competitive market interference that this so-called free market president is indulging in.

also health care insurance - the health care system in the US bites the big one. honestly why are we the only ones paying for the prescription drug research and advertisement. when is the american public going to get wise to what exactly all this "freedom" is costing them.

rant moan sigh ...

friday!!!

boo i didn't get to watch the OC last night. instead i talked to some friends and started to read pride and prejudice for like the millionth time. apparently dee has many pictures of me making out with people that i have never seen. i'm amused and excited to see her in january. also totally looking forward to visiting miami.

i'm going to try to get to the modern dance class that anna goes to on sunday, that or power yoga.

when did i start to really enjoy running, it is frustrating that i'm in such poor shape that i can only do it for 10 minutes at a time. i think i will try to run more when i go to the gym.

Breaking up the monotony

blah - unproductive conversations everywhere - why do things that should be relatively simple end up being so circuitous and tortured.

going to watch the OC tonight!

looking forward to crazed thanksgiving plans.
